August 27, 2025 (Wed.) - Travel Day, Riverwalk
Today was travel day, and our next stop was Lake Lenwood Beach and Campground in West Bend, WI—just a short 2-hour drive east (about 115 miles). With a 3 PM check-in time (later than the usual 1 PM), we weren’t in any rush and hit the road around 11 AM after a light breakfast.
Â
Â
The drive was smooth… until it wasn’t. About halfway through, our GPS flashed a “low bridge warning”, and the road signs confirmed: “Low Bridge 13′-18″.” Our rig is 13′-6″, or so we recall. With no time to reroute we held our breath and followed everyone else under the bridge, hoping for the best. Kirk swears he heard a scrape; Lynn didn’t hear a thing. Either way no obvious damage to the bridge or the rig, roof inspection pending. Thankfully, Kirk’s RV-specific app kept us on track—fingers crossed it continues to do so. A few miles away from our campground, we also hit a lane closure with a detour that sent us through town having to find a way to u-turn to the available route. That was another challenge on the narrow 2-lane roads here but we made it!
Â
Â
We arrived at the campground around 1 PM, and luckily, they let us check in early. While Kirk handled the paperwork, Lynn took Otis out for a quick walk—and got eaten alive by mosquitos in under five minutes. It was brutal. The staff explained that recent rains and flooding had created a mosquito explosion, far worse than usual. Lynn’s been RV-bound ever since!
Â
Â
Our site? Let’s just say it’s functional but far from ideal. Being the last spot that could fit our rig, it’s right by the main road and front office, and we’re not allowed to park our truck at the site—it has to go in a separate lot. The road is dirt, so every passing vehicle kicks up dust that drifts into the RV through our open windows. Not great. But the lake view is lovely, just steps away, and the weather is perfect—low 70s, breezy, and no need for A/C.
Â
Â
In the evening, we took a walk around the lake, found a hiking trail, and promptly turned back after realizing we’d wandered into mosquito central. We were swarmed within minutes. Dinner was in town at Billy Sims BBQ, which was just okay—we’d compare it to Dickies BBQ back home. The ribs were decent, but the rest was forgettable.
Â
Â
We ended the day with a stroll downtown near the riverwalk, then retreated to the RV to relax indoors and escape the bugs. Not the most glamorous day, but we made it—and tomorrow’s a fresh start.
