August 30-31, 2025 (Sat.-Sun.) – Relaxation Days.

August 30, 2025 (Sat.) - Beer, Detours & a Much-Needed Slow Day.

After yesterday’s full itinerary, today was all about taking it easy. Two days of activity in a row? That’s pushing it for us retired folks—we’ve earned our respite days, thank you very much! Lynn was up around 7:30 AM, hoping for a peaceful coffee moment outside, but the mosquitos had other plans. Instead, she settled for a cozy cup indoors and snapped a lovely photo of the sun rising over the lake through the RV window. Kirk slept in a bit (those itchy mosquito bites making for restless sleep still!) and whipped up a late breakfast to ease us into the day.

By 2 PM, we decided to venture out to Von Rothenburg Bier Stube in Germantown for some German beer and comfort food. Naturally, the GPS led us astray again—when it chirped “You have arrived,” we were smack in the middle of a traffic circle with no beer garden in sight. Lynn double-checked the map and discovered we were headed in the wrong direction entirely. Kirk blames Yelp’s navigation, while Lynn stuck with Google Maps. Maybe Yelp’s internal compass needs a tune-up.

Thankfully, Germantown is tiny, and the detour was just a two-minute correction. We found the place easily and were rewarded with a delicious schnitzel sandwich—far better than the one we had in Wisconsin Dells. The beer was excellent, the live music added a festive vibe, and even Otis got a doggie treat from the friendly staff.

We chatted with a nice couple who recommended checking out Old German Town, just five minutes away. We imagined a quaint historic village, but it turned out to be a single business, closed until Thursday. Since we’ll be gone by then, we missed our chance—but it was still a fun little side trip.

The drive back was scenic and peaceful, with hardly another car on the road. A perfect way to wind down.

The rest of the day was spent doing light chores, blogging, and watching a movie: Prisoners of Ghostland with Nicolas Cage. Let’s just say… we endured it. Not our finest cinematic choice, but we stuck it out to the bitter end.

All in all, it was a beautiful, relaxing day filled with good food, cold beer, and a few laughs—exactly what we needed.

Weather – High 71*, Low 54*. Wind 4-7 mph. No humidity. Beachy weather.

Traffic – None.

Food – Schnitzel Sandwich at the Biergarten – very good!

Notable – Biergarten food/music.

Screen Time – Prisoners of Ghostland – awful.

August 31, 2025 (Sun.) - Mist, Moonlight & Moths: A Quiet Sunday in West Bend

It’s Sunday—another day of rest, and we embraced it. With it being a holiday weekend, we expected the lake to be buzzing with families squeezing in one last adventure before school starts Tuesday. Surprisingly, it’s been pretty empty and calm.

Lynn was up at 6:45 AM, planning to sip her coffee indoors thanks to the chilly temps and persistent mosquitos. But when she opened the blinds and saw the sunrise glowing over a mist-covered lake, she couldn’t resist. She geared up like a bug-fighting ninja—Uggs, jacket, hat, lotion, and even a dryer sheet in her pocket (does that actually work?). She left her coffee inside to avoid bug contamination and premature cooling—it was 50* out, after all.

After snapping a few photos, she returned to the RV to enjoy her coffee in peace. But Otis had other plans. He wanted out. So Lynn headed back out for a quick walk. Surprisingly, no mosquito attacks—maybe it was the gear, maybe the cold, but either way, no bites. A small victory.

The rest of the day was blissfully uneventful. Lynn blogged a bit, Kirk cleaned up the bike in preparation for tomorrow’s ride, and we both tackled a few light chores before settling into full-on relaxation mode.

As evening fell, Kirk captured a cool half-moon photo during his walk with Otis. Then, out of nowhere—fireworks! Loud, booming, and seemingly endless. We couldn’t see much through the trees, but we could definitely hear them. We both weren’t willing to venture out into the mosquito infested lands to try to see them. Poor Otis was a little rattled, but Kirk let him have some couch time with him to provide the comfort he needed.

And just when Lynn thought the moth saga was finally over… another one appeared, hovering near the TV. Kirk tried to catch it but missed, so it’s still somewhere in the RV. We’re pretty sure it’s not one of the infamous Custer moths, just a local intruder looking to make its mark.

Not much action this weekend, so not many photos, but it was a peaceful, cozy kind of day.

Weather – High 73*, Low 47*. Wind 4-8 mph. No humidity. Beachy weather.

Traffic – None. We didn’t go anywhere.

Food – Ate in the RV all day!

Notable – Misty morning over the lake.
