May 21, 2025 (Wed.) - Lynn's double nickel birthday
Finally, a sunny day on my birthday. I share this day with my twin sister (who is older by 4 minutes) and my brother (who is 4 years older). Although I’m not in CA to share this day with my twin, it’s not unusual as most of the time I’m out camping anyways. But being in South Dakota this year makes it seem a little rougher being so far away with no real time frame on when I’ll be back again. Got to talk to her in the early morning though and she received the surprise Snoopy in the mail in time for her birthday! 🙂
Started the day by getting to drive Kirk’s truck solo all the way to Sturgis to the Indian dealership (about 30 miles away). Kirk had an appointment for service to fix his starter. We really need the bike operational so we can start to take advantage of the great rides out here when the weather permits. Seeing that I had only driven the truck once for maybe 10 minutes yesterday, I was a bit nervous and drove in complete silence with my hands at 10 and 2 the whole way and always under the speed limit (we still have CA plates!)…I aced it :)…I kind of like driving his big ole truck as long as I’m going straight and don’t have to navigate parking it! We then ate breakfast in Sturgis at Uncle Louie’s Diner (decent), then walked around the town a bit.
After returning home, took a nap (loving this retirement gig!), took Otis to the dog park and then had another wonderful dinner at Dakotah. It was a quiet and relaxing day with a little sun and a little rain. And as a bonus to the day, I got #1 in the Monopoly (app) event! Which never happens…my Monopoly friends will understand :)!
Weather – Sun, Rain and Wind – all generally mild. Mostly sunny day.
Notable – driving Kirk’s truck, dinner at Dakotah
Traffic – none…love it!
food 5/21/25 :
- Uncle Louie’s Diner (Sturgis) – Lynn-chicken fried steak, Kirk-pancakes, eggs, bacon. Decent.
- Dakotah Steakhouse (Rapid City) – Lynn’s Birthday Dinner – Lynn – 7oz. filet, Kirk 10 oz. filet. Basically the same meal we had on 5/12/25, the first day we got here. Excellent food. Luckily Kirk made a reservation as it was packed at 1830 (wait times were 40 minutes+!). Last time we went there was no wait.
