October 30, 2025 (Thu.) - The Ark Encounter.

Today marked our visit to the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, KY, located about an hour from our campground. Lynn was up early at 7:00 AM to a chilly 46°F and steady rain. Kirk followed a couple of hours later, rising at 9:00 AM with the full day in mind. We took our time, enjoyed a cozy breakfast in the RV, and finally hit the road around 11:15 AM. It was a dreary drive with the rain coming down and we had a cop car following us for quite some time. Must be those South Dakota license plates he was looking up! He followed us for miles!

The Ark Encounter is a Christian-themed attraction featuring a full-scale replica of Noah’s Ark, built to bring the biblical story to life. The structure is truly massive—510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high. Fittingly, the rain was still coming down as we drove, adding a poetic touch to our journey to the Ark. It was a bit pricey with parking $15 and admission fee $65 for Lynn and $55 for Kirk with his Senior Discount! And that was only for the Ark Encounter exhibit only! Costs went up for various other add-ons (museum, zip-line, etc.).

Despite the dreary weather, the place was bustling for a Thursday. The Ark itself is impressive, with three expansive decks filled with exhibits, gift shops, and snack bars. The scale was notable, but navigating the crowds made it tough to linger at some of the displays. Many visitors stood for long stretches reading every detail, but we opted to skim through most of it—patience isn’t our strong suit when it comes to long lines.

By 1:15 PM, we’d wrapped up our tour and were ready for lunch. The on-site buffet restaurant was convenient, but unfortunately, it didn’t sit well with either of us—we both ended up with upset stomachs.

We made it back to the campground by 3:30 PM, just in time to find our Amazon packages waiting. Kirk was thrilled to replace the overly bright digital clock we picked up in Indiana with a new one that was dimmer which was backlit. Bright lights and Kirk do not mix. Lynn was equally excited about her new heated jacket—this one with full sleeves and a hood, perfect for the damp, chilly weather we’ve been having. For Lynn, heated gear is a must—she’s always cold! We attempted to walk around the campground near the creek but the rain started in again.

The day wound down with a peaceful dinner in the RV and a beautiful sunset. The rain finally let up around 6:00 PM, and the sun peeked through the clouds. Of course, the warming windows coaxed the stink bugs out of hiding—three more met their end, bringing the tally up once again.
