November 4, 2025 (Tue.) - Chores Today, Tennessee Tomorrow.
Today was one of those “adulting” days—chores, bills, and travel prep. Nothing glamorous, but necessary. We were both up before 9:00 since a few phone calls had to be made, though Kirk made sure to start the morning right with his delicious hash brown sandwiches with sausage and egg.
Lynn was up even earlier—7:45 to be exact—stepping into a chilly 37°, though the weather app optimistically claimed it “felt like” 41°. Funny how the numbers can shift like that. Outside, a blanket of fog hung low, giving the morning a quiet, misty start.
Not long after, Kirk received a text saying his medical bill was ready to pay. This was for his two-day stint at McLaren Health in Cheboygan and Petoskey, Michigan. We tried to pay online, but the system wouldn’t let us set up an account without a Statement # or Patient ID#. Since we hadn’t received a paper bill yet, Kirk called the hospital. Turns out the statement hadn’t even been generated, so paying wasn’t possible. Why send a text saying the bill is ready if it isn’t? Frustrating. At least we got the amount owed, though it was a bit staggering compared to what we were used to with Kaiser. Retiree PPO coverage isn’t cheap, but we knew that going in. For now, we’ll wait until the statement arrives—no harm in deferring a few thousand dollars a little longer.
Meanwhile, Lynn had her own tasks since it was the last day for open enrollment. While reviewing records, she noticed the address was wrong across all her medical coverages. That meant calls to Blue Shield, the County of Orange, and Gallagher HRA to get it fixed. While she was tied up on the phone, Kirk mopped (yes, really—though Lynn suspects she may have stretched her call time just to avoid mopping!). He also refilled propane, fixed the toilet seat yet again, did some travel prep, and dropped off our leftover Halloween candy at the front office.
Lynn handled laundry and other prep chores, and later we relaxed with some TV. The day ended beautifully with a glowing sunset and a full moon overhead. Tomorrow we leave Kentucky and head toward Tennessee. Not many photos today, but plenty of progress made. Even on days filled with chores and frustrations, we’re reminded how lucky we are to be on this journey together.
