November 13, 2025 (Thu.) - Travel to Arkansas.
Lynn was up early at 5:00, tackling photo timestamp issues and spending the quiet morning sorting through pictures. Again, she saw another spectacular orange sunrise. By 8:00, Kirk was up and we began our travel prep. We pulled out of the campground by 10:15, clipping one of the orange cones on the way out—oops! The lanes in Tennessee are so narrow!
Our route to Arkansas was a straight shot along I‑40. Getting out of Nashville was the trickiest part, with the interstate crisscrossing back and forth—stay right, then left, then right again. The GPS lagged just enough to make lane changes stressful, especially with short windows to move over. On top of that, we encountered several low bridges. Out of at least six, two triggered alerts. They were within our height clearance, but only barely, so there was some breath‑holding until the road finally opened up. After about half an hour, traffic smoothed out and we settled into the slower lanes.
The drive itself was uneventful. We made our usual two rest stops—one in Holladay, TN, and another in Forrest City, AR. Both were small, with limited parking for big rigs.
By 3:30 we pulled into the campground. Check‑in was a little unusual—you had to call a phone number to be assigned a site. The setup itself was very basic: gravel pads, minimal grass, and no amenities. It’s designed strictly for self‑contained rigs since there are no bathrooms or laundry facilities, which we didn’t need anyway. There were no fire rings or picnic tables either. Interestingly, the campground had good reviews on Kirk’s RV Life app, but we’re realizing that people have very different ideas of what makes a campground “good.” Their expectations and experiences may be quite different from ours. We were only here for a few days so a good time to unwind in the quiet…oh wait, the I-40 was right next to us so we could unwind with the traffic noise.
At 5:00 we headed out for dinner, catching a beautiful sunset along the way. The Ole Sawmill Café had good reviews on Kirk’s RV app and was within walking distance, though we drove so we could explore the town afterward. The café had a large country store in front and a restaurant in back. We tried the buffet, but it didn’t live up to the hype. The staff seemed grumpy, shouting across the dining room, and unfortunately we both ended up with stomach issues later. Again, maybe some of those RV Life reviews should be taken with a grain of salt.
All in all, it was mostly a travel day. Just pics of our road trip. We’ll be here just four days before moving on.
