June 19, 2026 (Fri.) - Water troubles.
Even if we had plans today, they were instantly put on hold. Water problems and RVs do not mix.
Lynn woke up a little later than usual around 6:45 and decided a morning walk wasn’t happening. At 49° outside — and with the thought of another mind‑numbing loop around the single‑row campground — staying indoors felt like the better choice. Probably a good omen, because at 7:30 the toilet water decided it was done cooperating and kept running nonstop. That’s RV‑speak for: something is wrong.
After ten minutes of Lynn pressing the toilet pedal and praying the water would stop (it didn’t), she woke Kirk to report the crisis. He got up, assessed the situation in the chilly morning air, and came up with a temporary solution: turn off all the water and unhook the filters. Then he promptly went back to bed.
He eventually resurfaced around 10 a.m. We had a light breakfast, and Lynn spent the morning doing chores and blogging. Around 11:30, Kirk was finally ready to tackle the water issue — plus it had warmed up a bit. The culprit turned out to be clogged water filters causing low pressure. They weren’t due for replacement for a few more weeks, but thankfully he had a spare set. While swapping them out, he discovered some truly nasty rust‑colored, slimy buildup on the filters that definitely shouldn’t have been there. At least we know the filters are doing their job! Thank goodness for extra-extra filters for our water (another at the intake and we use Brita filters for filtering the already filtered water).
By 2:30 p.m., all the filters were changed, the water was back on, and the pressure was normal again. Yay!
With that crisis resolved, it was officially nap time. The rest of the afternoon and evening were spent relaxing and watching a movie.
Not many photos today — we didn’t go anywhere or do anything beyond wrangling RV plumbing.
Weather – High 83*, Low 41*. Wind 2-10 mph with 18 mph gusts. No rain, no humidity.
Traffic – None, didn’t go anywhere.
Food – Nothing to report. Ate in the RV all day.
Notable – Nasty water filters.
Screen time – Dutton Ranch, Widows Bay, Fast Charlie (movie) – good!
June 20, 2026 (Sat.) - A Lazy Steamboat Saturday.
Not much was planned for today other than a little shopping in town. Lynn was up early at 5:15 but skipped the walk yet again. Kirk woke up around his usual 9:30‑ish. It was a lazy morning — Kirk cooked breakfast in the RV, and we didn’t actually start our day until about 11:30 when we headed into downtown Steamboat Springs. It was so busy we could barely find parking. With Kirk’s giant truck, we ended up parking on the edge of town and walking in. That counted as Lynn’s walk for the day. Since it was Saturday, the Farmers Market was happening near the river, and the whole area was packed.
We decided to check out F.M. Light & Sons since we’d seen their signs along the highway miles before reaching town — kind of like the Wall Drug signs, just not quite as excessive. The store has been around since 1905 and is a massive western‑wear shop filled with boots, belts, hats, and all sorts of gear. It was absolutely packed inside; you could barely move. We should’ve known — Saturday crowds. We didn’t buy anything because the lines were long and the aisles were jammed. Lynn had hoped to find new trail shoes, but we weren’t sticking around.
We stopped at Steamboat Shoe Market next, and Lynn finally found new shoes (On Cloud) along with her favorite socks (Smartwool). She’d been hunting for those socks for months — they’re surprisingly hard to find anywhere other than Amazon, and since we’re constantly on the move, buying local is usually the better option. Little did she know Smartwool was actually founded right here in Steamboat Springs. A few hundred dollars later, Mama finally had a new pair of shoes… and it was officially time for lunch!
Kirk found a pizza place called Beau Jo’s Pizza. We ordered a “Mountain Pie” with pepperoni, sausage, and onions. The twist? They bring honey to drizzle on your pizza. We’d never heard of that, so of course we tried it. Surprisingly delicious — especially on the crust, which is basically bread (wonderfully crisp and flaky) and honey. Even drizzling it over the toppings gave a fun sweet‑and‑savory combo.
We wandered more of town, grabbed groceries, filled up with gas, and headed back around 2:30 p.m. We relaxed and watched Netflix’s I Will Find You, based on Harlan Coben’s novel. Part way through, we realized we’d already seen it — and Lynn discovered she read the book in 2023 (thank you, Libby history). Since neither of us remembered the ending, we watched it again anyway. Still a good, intriguing show.
Around 6 p.m., we did more trip planning and had dinner in the RV. Even though it was beautiful outside, we stayed in — it was hot, and the mosquitos were swarming. As we got ready for bed, a giant moth made an appearance. Either it hitchhiked from Kremmling or snuck in when the patio was down. We’re hoping it’s a one‑off and not the start of another moth invasion like last year in South Dakota. Kirk dispatched it, and peace was restored.
A slow day overall — not many photos, but plenty of little moments.
Weather – High 83*, Low 49*. Winds 3-23 mph with 34 mph gusts. No rain, no humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – Beau Jo’s Pizza
Notable – Pizza with honey. New shoes and socks!
Screen time – I Will Find You (series), Day of the Jackal, Homestead Rescue.
June 21, 2026 (Sun.) - More water issues & Chores.
It was our last day in Steamboat Springs before heading north to Wyoming. We didn’t have much planned — we’re not really hikers anymore without the dog, Lynn gets motion sickness so water activities are questionable, and anything involving heights (like gondolas) is a hard pass. Add in the altitude, which has us feeling tired all the time, and a slow day felt just right.
Lynn was up around 7 a.m. and actually went for one final walk here despite the chilly 56* weather. Kirk rolled out of bed around 10 a.m., made a pancake breakfast, and relaxed for a bit. Around noon, he headed out to wash the truck. Outside of California, full‑service car washes are nearly impossible to find, so off he went to the self‑wash bays. The truck was looking rough, and he spent some time making it sparkle again — $34 worth of scrubbing (which of course guarantees it will rain within the next day or two). Meanwhile, Lynn stayed back to do chores, prep for travel, and blog.
Kirk returned around 2 p.m., we had lunch, and immediately discovered low water pressure again. The toilet was running — again. After a little investigating, it seems this campground just has low pressure, and we can’t run the washing machine and flush the toilet at the same time without everything dropping. After the past few water issues, Kirk installed water‑detection sensors throughout the RV: one in the storage bays near the water lines, one in the bathroom, and one under the kitchen sink. Hopefully if anything leaks, the alarms will catch it before we do.
The rest of the afternoon and evening were spent getting ready for travel, watching movies, and Lynn chatting with her son.
Not many pics today either.
Weather – High 80*, Low 48*. Winds 1-15 mph with 25 mph gusts. No rain, no humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – Nothing to report. Ate in the RV all day.
Notable – Nothing to report.
