June 27, 2026 (Sat.) - A Cold Winter Day in June!
We didn’t have anything planned for today. After seeing Friday’s crowds, there was no way we were heading into Jackson on a Saturday. With a chilly, rainy day in the forecast, staying inside sounded perfect.
Lynn was up at 6:30 a.m., and Kirk made his usual 9:00 a.m. appearance. The morning rolled along with Kirk making breakfast—sausage and egg muffins—while Lynn tackled chores and blogging.
The gloom settled in early, and by 2:30 p.m. the skies had darkened even more. Kirk spent the afternoon researching and booking our next site in Montana, and then the rain and hail kicked in. It was a short‑lived storm, but the dreary weather stuck around. It was absolutely nap weather, and sure enough, we napped. Lynn woke up groggy after a two‑hour snooze. We’ve both been unusually tired lately—still wondering if the higher elevation is affecting us. Pinedale sits higher than Steamboat Springs, so maybe we’re still adjusting. And honestly, we California people aren’t used to ~40 degree weather in late June, so that might be part of it too. The rain and wind returned around 8 p.m., and at 47° (feels like 39°!), it was downright cold outside.
We spent the rest of the day and evening inside, relaxing and watching TV. Not many photos today—just a quiet, cozy day in the RV.

June 28, 2026 (Sun.) - Blue Lakes and Mountain Men.
After being cooped up yesterday, we were ready to get out and explore Pinedale.
Lynn was up just after 6 a.m. to a chilly 39° (feels like 37°). Even with both the heater and fireplace running, the cold clung to her legs and feet. Blogging at the dining table with a heating pad helped… a little. Kirk rolled out just after 9 a.m., and we eased into a slow morning. A light breakfast in the RV, then off to Pinedale around 12:30 p.m.—only a quick 30‑minute drive.
First stop: lunch at Fremont Lake. The Lakeside Restaurant has gorgeous views overlooking the water, but it was far too chilly to sit outside. Yelp’s “meh” reviews should’ve been our warning. The food lived up to the reputation: rubbery crab cakes (Lynn tapped out after one bite), an undercooked burger, and a very forgettable chicken sandwich for Kirk. Honestly, we should’ve known better than to order crab cakes in beef country—that one’s on us. But the views? Absolutely stunning. The lake shimmered in shades of blue and green that were mesmerizing. If only the food matched the scenery.
Next, we wandered over to the Museum of the Mountain Man, which dives into the Rocky Mountain fur‑trade era (1820–1840)—a time when mountain men trapped beaver, traded with Native tribes, and survived brutal winters. Pinedale played a major role in this history as the site of the Green River Rendezvous, a huge annual gathering of trappers, traders, and tribes. It was surprisingly fascinating. Lynn had never really known much about mountain men or the Rendezvous, so learning all of it was interesting. Admission was $18 total (Lynn $10, Kirk $8 with the senior discount!).
By 4 p.m., we were back at the RV. It was 50° but felt more like 35°. We rested, napped (again… must be this altitude!), and eventually made dinner. Kirk tackled baked potatoes in the air fryer—something we’ve done before—but this time they took forever (perhaps altitude issues??). We didn’t eat until well past 8:30 p.m. Still, they turned out delicious topped with chicken.
A chilly day, beautiful views, and a bit of history—altogether a pretty good day out.
