June 20, 2025 (Fri.) - Waiting on the Wind That Never Came
Lynn was up early again, enjoying her morning coffee outside under calm skies. With temps headed for the 90s and a forecast calling for gusts up to 44 mph, we braced for the worst. After our last experience with wild winds in Box Elder, we prepped to bring in the slides and hunker down with the A/C.
Â
Â
That led to a quiet, stay-put kind of day. Lynn scheduled her temporary crown appointment now that she’s cleared by the endodontist—only slot available was 7 AM on Monday (6/23/25) in Rapid City. Not ideal, but better than waiting an extra week and being stuck in the area longer.
Â
Â
We kept a close watch as 3 PM approached, expecting chaos… but aside from a couple quick gusts, things stayed surprisingly mellow. We didn’t even need to bring the slides in!!
Â
Â
The rest of the day was uneventful—meals in the RV, a bit of TV (Condor and LOOT), evening hike with Otis near the campground and a peaceful campfire under the night sky to wind it all down.
Â
Â
Very few pics for today.

June 21, 2025 (Sat.) - Custer museum, Stockade Lake
Lynn kicked off day three of peaceful patio coffee time, soaking in the birdsong and stillness—it’s quickly becoming a favorite part of her routine.
Â
We headed into town for breakfast at Maria’s Mexican Kitchen, which definitely hit the spot. With the heat climbing again, we opted for an indoor escape at the Custer County Museum ($8/person)—a nice break from the sun and full of local history.
Â
Afterward, we swung by the Purple Pie Place for a sweet treat. Ice cream in hand, we cruised around Stockade Lake and Bismarck Lake, enjoying the scenery from the comfort of the A/C.
Â
By afternoon, the Saturday crowds were building and the temps rising, so we made our way back to the RV. Met a friendly couple from Torrance, CA on a month-long road trip—always fun connecting with fellow travelers.
Â
Kirk grilled up some steaks, and we closed out the day with another peaceful evening by the campfire, soaking in the warmth and quiet of Custer.
Â
Weather – High 85*, Low 58*. Winds forecasted 11-29 mph. But again, no heavy winds occurred.
Traffic – None.
Food – Maria’s Mexican Kitchen, RV for lunch & dinner.
Notable – Custer Museum, steaks on the grill.

Answer to the photo #12 of “What is It” = per Google, it appears to be an antique wire coiled bustle that women wore around their waist under clothing so their dresses would add fullness and support.

- Maria’s Mexican Kitchen – Lynn got the Chorizo Burrito, Kirk ordered sides (per server recommendation) to achieve what he wanted for breakfast. They have a Mexican Breakfast menu and an American “Gringo” Breakfast menu.
- Stopped by Dr. Flick’s Cabin – little historical place in downtown Custer.
- More painted buffalo around downtown Custer.
- Stopped at the Purple Pie Place for some ice cream after our tour of Custer Museum.
- Drove to Stockade Lake and explored the area.
- Enjoyed a steak dinner, wine and campfire to round out the night. Lynn setting up the Oculus Quest VR (Meta Quest 3) to Starlink so she can resume her workouts.
