Hiding From the Heat!
We had nothing planned for today, and with a forecasted high of 107°, that felt like the right choice. After yesterday’s long outing, we spent the day tucked inside the RV with every shade drawn. It was so dark it felt like we were inside a casino — minus the slot machines, plus blessed air‑conditioning.
Lynn was up early at 05:15, and it was already 66°. Shortly before 7:00 she headed out for a walk before the sun started turning everything into a frying pan. The campground is large, so two loops added up to 2.2 miles. She even spotted a deer just outside the fence line. Kirk was up at 9:00, and we had a light breakfast before officially committing to a full “cave‑in” day.
The day was mostly chores for Lynn — laundry, blog work, photo sorting — while we binge‑watched TV. For whatever reason, Game of Thrones (GOT) refused to load. In a moment of desperation, we switched over to the Little House on the Prairie reboot. Yes, we were that desperate. A few episodes in, we agreed it was cute and charming… and that we were absolutely done. Thankfully, GOT eventually came back online and we dove right back into binge‑mode.
Kirk’s only job today was booking our next reservation in Butte, MT. Somehow we managed to double‑book a day and had to untangle our dates. He also discovered that today was Billings’ hottest day in recorded history — 115°. No wonder hiding inside felt like the smartest plan we’ve made all week.
The day ended up being productive for Lynn, even if she’s still behind on the blog. She even made mini tacos and fried up the tortillas herself — a rare event, since cooking is usually Kirk’s territory.
We finally emerged from our cave around 9:00 p.m. to a beautiful sunset, though it was still 93° outside.
Very few photos today — just a quiet, sweltering Montana day spent hiding from the heat.
