Missing Tooth, Glowing Butte.
Today is the day: Lynn officially loses a tooth.
She was up at 6am, and Kirk followed at 8am. By 8:30 we were at M&M Bar & Café in Uptown Butte for breakfast – shockingly early for us. M&M is known for their sweet crème pancakes which Kirk got, but Lynn stuck with the French toast she enjoyed last time. Both breakfasts were good but the bacon was the star of the show. But when is it not?!
We were back at the RV just after 9am to relax before Lynn’s 11am dentist appointment. To kill a little time, we took a short drive around Butte to explore more of the town. Highlights included Montana Tech’s campus and their field proudly declaring, “It’s A Great Day to be an Oredigger!” Love it! We also passed the Catholic church and a few statues and signs. Butte has no shortage of interesting roadside entertainment.
After our mini‑tour, we headed into the dental office right on schedule. The extraction went smoothly — tooth #2 is officially gone, and hopefully the pain will follow.
While waiting for Lynn’s prescriptions, we explored Butte even more. At one point we even passed a house offering “Free Kittens.” What better way to recover from a tooth extraction than with a tiny, soft, purring emotional support fluffball? Although tempting, we did not partake. Sensibility kicked in — traveling with a baby animal is adorable in theory and a disaster in practice.
By 12:30pm the meds were ready, and since Lynn still needed soft food, lunch turned into mashed potatoes and gravy from the nearby KFC. We brought it back to the RV and settled in. By 2pm, thunder started rolling in. Since we leave Butte tomorrow, we hurried to pack up all the outdoor gear before the rain hit — no one wants to deal with muddy equipment in the morning. We got the last item put away just as the skies opened up. Perfect timing or sheer luck… we’ll never know.
The afternoon turned into a rest‑and‑TV marathon. We put on He‑Man and immediately fell asleep — the true sign of quality entertainment. Lynn’s pain lingered, so naps and medication were the main agenda. After a two‑hour snooze, we woke up in time for dinner: more mashed potatoes for Lynn, because she’s living her best soft‑food life. Thank goodness that large KFC mashed potatoes and gravy is enough for several meals!
Thunderstorms continued into the evening. Around 9pm the skies cleared and we headed out for gas, groceries, and one last nighttime look at Butte. With the headframes lit up, the city has a dramatic glow after dark — a fitting farewell for our final night here. By 10:30pm we were back at the RV, ready to head toward Rollins, MT tomorrow.
