May 15, 2025 (Thu.) - wind, dog grooming
Didn’t do much today. Dropped off Otis at the dog groomer (much needed). Had an appointment with an America’s Mailbox specialist regarding vehicle registrations which resulted in lots of homework for us…needing to call the CA Department of Tax & Fee Administration. The wind was crazy up to ~45mph. We tried to stay out of the RV as much as possible as the wind was so bad we had to close the slides and the noise was unbearable. Food was nothing to write home about. Went to Taco Johns for lunch…similar to Del Taco – there are no Del Tacos in South Dakota :(. Dinner at Millstone…similar to Marie Calendars.
Note: when we close the slides, there is no access to the kitchen or living room. Only the bedroom and the bathroom are accessible.
Weather – cold and windy. It was 51* at 0730 but felt like 33*. Winds at 23mph with gusts up to 45mph. High of 60*/Low 50*.
Traffic – none
Notable – Otis was praised for being such a good boy at the dog groomer :).

May 16, 2025 (fri.) - wind, Custer State Park
Wind was the worst last night and today. Winds up to ~60mph. Didn’t sleep much again due to the noise and had to keep slides closed again. Our goal was to not be in the RV in these conditions. Explored various stores in the area. Stopped in at Fleet Farm and Runnings, both home improvement type stores that have EVERYTHING (including chicks!). Tried to go to the Petrified Forest but it was closed. Decided to drive through Custer State Park. Thankfully it was Open House today at the park thus the entrance fee was FREE! We drove the 18-mile Wildlife Loop Road.
Weather – cold and windy, rain in some places. It was 48* at 0745 but felt like 24*. Winds around 30mph with gusts up to 60mph. Winds died down around 1900. High 56*/Low 44*.
Traffic – none
Sights – bison, pronghorns (antelope), burros, prairie dogs, chipmunk
