May 17-20, 2025 – rain/wind, the TURD, etc.

May 17, 2025 (Sat.) - homebodies, sunsets

Finally, a beautiful sunny day. No wind, no rain! We decided to be homebodies today since there was so much to do such as laundry, cleaning, doing chores we couldn’t get to as the slides had to be in, and of course taking Otis to the dog park. Highlight of the day was to open up the patio, have a drink and watch the sunset. First day actually NOT eating out!

Weather – beautiful! High of 66*, Low of 37*. No rain and very little wind.

Notable – sun and drinks on the patio.

Traffic – none really. Didn’t go anywhere but the dog park.

May 18, 2025 (sun.) - rained out, movie day, shoe rack

Movie day!  Sometimes you just have to curl up, put the fireplace on and watch movies all day.  It rained ALL day. Only real accomplishment today was the installation of a ‘shoe rack’. Kirk installed our old curtain rod from the house at the foot of our bed for more shoe storage.  It works awesomely! No more shoes all over the floor and still accessible when the slides are in. Only other excursions today included a trip to Menards (home improvement store) and dinner at Thai Thai…Lynn had to try asian food in South Dakota. Also grabbed an apple pie to take home from Perkins (so-so).

Weather – rain all day, thunderstorms, wind. High of 62*, Low of 43*. Winds 16-25mph.

Notable – new shoe rack from an old curtain rod!

Movies – Exterritorial, The Lost Lands – entertaining enough

May 19, 2025 (Mon.) - escaping rain and wind

Another day of rain and high winds. Had to close the slides again. Decided to stay out of RV for most of the day by visiting stores such as Camping World, Runnings, Perkins and a few others. Otis is great as he sits in the car and waits for us.  Nothing major to report. On the food front…nothing spectacular, we ate breakfast in the RV, early dinner at Perkins (no photos).

Photos of weather and what the living space of the RV looks like when the slides are in. The only accessible space is the kitchen counter so we put our snacks, water and Otis’ bowls where we can reach them.

May 20, 2025 (tue.) - chores, lynn's driving, the TURD

Another rainy day. Winds weren’t too bad so we were able to open the slides. Had a late start (11am) so brunch it was at Beau’s (Campbell Street Cafe). Lynn’s Chicken Fried Steak was good (not as good as 3 Sisters in WY). Kirk’s Breakfast Burrito was so-so.

Chores – Kirk made calls to the vehicle title companies and I got the task of calling the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) for proof of sales tax paid for our vehicle purchases.  Note that the Bill of Sale/Financing Agreement is not an acceptable form of proof of sales tax paid to the State when purchasing a vehicle. Apparently, there’s a history of tax fraud thus the State of South Dakota requires proof that the tax was paid to the State of CA for all of our vehicles. Thankfully, since I’m a hoarder of documents (I scan everything), it was quite helpful for me to have copies of all our purchase documents and vehicle registrations when requesting this information from the CDTFA website. Crossing my fingers that I did it correctly and I uploaded the proper documents.

Took Otis to the dog park…and for the drive home I got to drive Kirk’s truck for the 1st time ever!  I drove home from the dog park back to the RV with no incidents to report…other than Kirk’s white knuckles probably, LOL!  This driving lesson was in preparation for tomorrow’s trip to Sturgis since I’ll have to drive the truck there when Kirk takes his bike in for service. Sturgis is 30 miles from the campground.

The TURD – so Kirk and Brian have this on-going thing where they hide this fake turd in each other’s homes/cars/trees…wherever they can. It has been in some weird places, most notably, hanging from a tree for days at our old house in HB (Brian snuck in the back yard while we were on vacation, got a ladder and tied it to a tall tree branch. I’m sure our gardeners were scratching their heads when they saw it!). Before we left, at our bon voyage party at Brian’s house, Kirk hid it in their fridge hoping they would find it after we left CA. Since we have to schedule our mail/package pick up, we went to pick up our Amazon packages and were confused when Kirk had a package from a company called Motorsports, Inc. in Sioux Falls, SD.  He couldn’t remember ordering anything and his sanity came into question…or is it that he orders so much online he can’t keep track??? <sigh>… Once we got back to the RV, it was quite a surprise and a fit of laughter that the TURD was shipped to us from Brian.  It did cost almost $7 to ship it but we were dying of laughter and put at ease that we weren’t losing our minds…Now, Kirk will have to figure out how to hide it again.
