May 26, 2025 (Mon. - Memorial day) - rain, food
Nothing really to report. Monday was Memorial Day and full of rain. We were supposed to leave Box Elder today but had no reservations elsewhere and still haven’t finished our transition to South Dakotians. Vehicle registration and our driver’s licenses still not complete. So we’ve extended our stay here another week. Went to the grocery store (Timmons Market) for the first time since we’ve been here. Surprisingly it seemed very pricey (over $17/lb. for a t-bone steak). Took Otis to the dog bark in the rain. He is not a fan of water so we didn’t stay long. Spent the rest of the day relaxing.
Weather – High of 55*, Low of 48*. Mild winds.
Traffic – none
Notable – nothing
Screen time – The Last of Us
Food 5/26/25:
- Millstone – 5/26/25 – Lynn’s chicken fried steak – surprisingly good. #2 on the rankings right now. Kirk’s pancakes, eggs & bacon were decent. Lynn loved the “Coffee News” complete with Horoscopes and Word Search.
- Gyro Hub – 5/26/25 – tried to eat a little healthier by grabbing some Mediterranean food. Extremely pricey for the fast-food style restaurant. Over $60 for a gyro, chicken bowl, pita w/hummus and salad on paper plates and plastic forks. It was not that good and very dry. Chicken was dry, rice was stale and bread was hard around the edges. On the plus side, Kirk’s gyro had a lot of lamb and the yogurt sauce in the rice bowl was very good.
May 27, 2025 (tue.) - a pain in the neck, chores, mud
Not much to report—unless you count Lynn’s battle with gravity and bad sleep posture. Between a tumble down the stairs and waking up with a neck that refuses to cooperate, one might start suspecting Kirk of mischief… 😂
A wonderful friend had gifted me (Lynn) a lot of Lidocaine patches, which I absolutely knew I had—until they mysteriously vanished into the abyss. I practically tore the RV apart searching for them, but in the end, I admitted defeat and begrudgingly bought new ones at the grocery store. Naturally, the lost patches resurfaced later while reorganizing the bathroom. Classic Kirk & Lynn…the eternal struggle of owning things, losing them, replacing them, then immediately finding them again. <Sigh>
The rest of the day was spent booking doctor appointments, tackling calls with the CDTFA and title companies, and squeezing in a few errands (Ace Hardware, Family Fare). It was a beautiful day and Otis got his fun at Robbinsdale dog park again, living his best life! As always, his evening walk was the highlight, especially when Kirk lets him off-leash for a bit of bird and rabbit chasing. Normally, Otis steers clear of water, but the thrill of the hunt completely overrides his hesitation—along with his ability to listen. This time, his pursuit led him straight into a gulch full of water and mud, and, well… let’s just say Kirk had his hands full scrubbing the aftermath before Otis was allowed back in the RV. Meanwhile, I bid farewell to a perfectly good towel in the name of dog-cleaning duty.😂
We actually ate in the RV all day since we had groceries.
Weather – High 67*, Low of 50*. Mild winds. Some sun, some clouds.
Traffic – None.
Notable – Lynn’s excruciating neck pain, Otis’ muddy adventures.
Screen time – Sirens (binged watched the whole season) – very good.
No pics today.
May 28, 2025 (wed.) - bike night, prairie dogs, more mud
The neck pain persists but is finally easing up. The day started slow, with more chores—mail pickup, organizing, laundry, the usual. Since we were nearby, we made a quick stop at the Black Hills Visitors Center before grabbing lunch at Sickies Garage. Their hamburgers were very good (Kirk’s Wagyu was very good) and we had to try the cheese curds which were excellent!
Sickies Garage also hosts Bike Night on Wednesdays. So we just had to go! On the way to Bike Night, we cruised through the neighborhood and stumbled upon a prairie dog field. Unexpected entertainment! The night wrapped up with the classic trifecta: bikes, bands, and beer—a solid way to end the day.
Now, onto Otis’ repeat performance. Apparently, Kirk didn’t learn from yesterday, because during Otis’ late-night bathroom break, he spotted another rabbit and off he went—straight into the muddy gulch again. This time, the smell was truly next-level bad. First, he was sentenced to the garage, and once the wet dog funk had mostly dissipated, he was allowed into the living room for the night. Clearly, Otis believes that chasing rabbits is worth any consequences. 😂 Pic below isn’t too bad but he got cleaned up and you can’t capture smell in a pic!😂
Weather – High 64*, Low 49*. Some sun, some clouds, mild winds. Beautiful day.
Traffic – None.
Notable – Prairie dogs, Bike Night, Otis’ muddy adventures part 2.
Movie – Fountain of Youth – entertaining
