November 1, 2025 (Sat.) - A Scenic Day : Drives, art, bridges & more.

Being Saturday, we steered clear of the usual tourist hotspots and opted for a scenic drive along Old Frankfort Pike, hoping to explore nearby towns and uncover a few roadside gems. Lynn was up early as always—7:00 AM to a brisk 37°F—but was rewarded with a beautiful pink sunrise. Kirk took a slower start, rolling out around 10:00 AM.

We hit the road around 12:45 PM, heading for Old Frankfort Pike. It’s a 15.5-mile scenic byway in Kentucky that winds through the heart of Bluegrass country between Frankfort and Lexington. It’s known for its picturesque horse farms, historic landmarks, and tree-canopied roads that offer one of the most beautiful drives in the state.

The scenery did not disappoint—it was absolutely stunning and quickly became one of our favorite drives to date. The landscape was breathtaking—rolling hills blanketed in green pastures, bursts of fall foliage, and grazing horses and cows dotting the fields. At times, the road narrowed to a single lane, which made for some tense moments when cars came toward us. With our big truck, we had to pull over wherever we could to let them pass. It got a little hairy, but we made it through unscathed!

We arrived in Lexington around 1:30 PM and used Lynn’s app to hunt down a few quirky roadside attractions. The quirkiest being the “Fountain of Unclad Youth”. After a bit of walking seeing murals, art sculptures and the downtown area, we grabbed lunch at Ruby’s Market and CafĂ©, a cozy little spot with decent reviews. It was a small market that also served food—Kirk had a gyro, Lynn went with a salad. Tasty enough, but nothing to write home about.

By 3:30 PM, we were off again in search of another covered bridge, this time in Switzer, KY. It was easy to find and made for a nice photo op—another charming bridge to add to our growing list. It was inoperable and covered with colorful graffiti, but still scenic.

We returned to the RV by 4:00 PM, just in time for a quick nap before the campground’s final night of festivities for the season. They had a BBQ food truck and live music lined up, so at 6:30 PM we headed to the clubhouse to eat and enjoy the tunes. The food was delicious, and the music—mostly country and rock—was a great way to wind down the evening.

We also picked up our Amazon deliveries, including Kirk’s third attempt at finding the perfect digital clock. The second one, delivered on 10/30/25, didn’t meet expectations—the backlight didn’t operate as expected—so he ordered yet another. That brings us to three clocks and $110+ spent. Fingers crossed this one’s just right! It’s like Goldilocks and the three bears, but with clocks. Third time’s the charm, right?

By 8:00 PM, we were back in the RV as the rain returned. Kirk installed the new clock, and so far, it’s working to his satisfaction—not perfect but it’ll do for now.

All in all, the day was a mix of scenic drives, small-town charm, campground fun, and a clock saga that finally seems resolved. A full and fun Saturday on the road!
