October 12-13, 2025 (Sun.-Mon.) – Exploration and Relaxation.

October 12, 2025 (Sun.) - Laundry, Lists and Lounging.

Today was all about slowing down and catching up on a few chores. Lynn was up around 8:00 AM, while Kirk enjoyed a bit more rest and got up around 10:15. We had a calm and cozy morning in the RV before heading into Rome City to stock up on groceries and do a little exploring. Along the way, we stumbled upon another Sylvan Lake—this one in Indiana (the last one we saw was in South Dakota). It’s a quiet, peaceful community, and we enjoyed the scenic drive around the lake.

The afternoon was a mix of productivity and relaxation. With the weather on our side, Kirk took on the task of cleaning all the RV windows—inside, outside, and even the screens (pulled out and cleaned on both sides)! Meanwhile, Lynn tackled the laundry, did some bill paying and spent some time reading and relaxing outdoors.

We’re still dealing with those pesky stink bugs that first showed up at Pine Ridge Campground in Birch Run, MI. Either they hitched a ride with us or they’re just as fond of Wolcottville as we are. Thankfully, they’re slow and harmless—more of a nuisance than anything. Kirk’s been on bug patrol, and despite their name, they haven’t lived up to their stinky reputation.

We wrapped up the day with a cozy campfire and a movie that turned out to be… well, not great.

Not many photos today—just one of those simple, satisfying days on the road.

Weather – High 70*,  Low 43*. Wind 5-18 mph. No rain, no humidity.

Traffic – None.

Food – Nothing to report. Ate in the RV all day.

Notable – Nothing much.

Screen time – Toxic Avengers – terrible!

October 13, 2025 (Mon.) - A Ride Around Wolcottville.

Our original plan for the day was to tour the Grand Designs RV factory, the maker of our RV. Lynn had booked the appointment online last week, but we got an email this morning saying no tours were scheduled for today—ugh. They did have openings on Tuesday, but we already have other plans then. Oh well, maybe next time we’re in Elkhart, IN!

Kirk spent the morning searching for our next campsite, which turned into quite the task. After calling at least five campgrounds and striking out—everything was booked—he finally found one with availability in Straughn, IN. It’s a bit farther than we’d planned, but it’ll work. We’ll just have to drive a little more to reach the spots we want to explore.

With our factory tour off the table, we decided to make the most of the gorgeous weather and head out for a ride. Around noon, we jumped on the bike with no set destination—just a spirit of adventure. Kirk navigated freestyle, scanning the GPS for scenic lakes, winding roads, and intriguing signs tucked along the backroads.

One of those spontaneous turns led us to a Wetlands Overlook and Dallas Lake, a quiet and serene spot with a hiking trail that caught our eye. Despite being dressed in riding gear and boots, we couldn’t resist exploring. We wandered down to the beach and the hiking trail without checking how far it stretched, and after about thirty minutes, we turned back—clearly not outfitted for a serious hike, but glad we ventured out anyway.

By 1:30 PM, we were both tired and hungry. We’d heard good things about a nearby spot called Backroads Tavern, so we stopped in for burgers. They were tasty, though a bit on the salty side. Unfortunately, Lynn’s stomach didn’t feel great later in the day. After a little more exploring, we headed back to the RV around 3 PM for a nap and some chores.

Lynn spent the afternoon handling tax tasks for her mom—the deadline’s fast approaching—and coordinating a few doctor appointments.

The evening was quiet and relaxing. Lynn got an unexpected call from her son just to say “Hi,” which absolutely made her day.

All in all, not a super productive day, but we did get out and explore a bit—and checked off a few to-dos.

Weather – High 73*, Low 51*. Winds 4-12 mph. No rain, no humidity.

Traffic – None.

Food – Backroads Tavern.

Notable – Riding and exploring.
