October 19, 2025 (Sun.) - Rain, Wind and Rainbows.

The wind and rain that rolled in overnight made for a restless sleep, so we let ourselves sleep in a bit. The forecast promised a full day of blustery weather, so we decided to hunker down and stay cozy indoors.

Kirk kicked things off with a hearty breakfast—sausage, egg, and hashbrown sandwiches. Delicious! Though in the process, he managed to smoke up the RV just enough to trigger the fire alarm. When he took it down to silence it, surprise: a stink bug was hiding inside! (Naturally, we forgot to snap a photo.) These little guys really do find the strangest hiding spots.

The rest of the morning was low-key. We watched movies, Lynn worked on the blog, and Kirk tried to lock down our next campsite. After striking out with three fully booked spots, he finally found availability in Elizabethtown, KY. Not quite where we planned but it’ll do, Kirk will find some distilleries nearby!

Outside, the rain kept pouring—heavy and relentless, with low visibility through the sheets of rain. By 4 PM, the wind had ramped up to nearly 40 mph. Kirk braved the gusts to secure the Starlink dish to the ground. Meanwhile, Lynn was deep into blog work when, at 4:20 PM, the power cut out—right in the middle of a massive photo upload. Ugh. Thankfully, Kirk had it back up and running by 4:30. Turns out the surge protector was throwing all kinds of weird error codes. We may be in the market for a new one soon.

Then, at 6:30 PM, the clouds finally cracked open just enough to let the sun peek through. A light drizzle lingered, but it was just enough to create a stunning rainbow—and even a faint double! Lynn grabbed her camera and dashed out into the cold (48°, but felt more like 35°) to capture the moment. Thank goodness for heated vests. Just a half hour later, around 7 PM, another beautiful sunset came out. A fiery red/yellow glow. Lynn once again headed back out into the cold for a few pics!

The rest of the evening was spent just as we started it: tucked inside, listening to the rain and watching movies.

Then, at 9:30 PM, just as Kirk was mid-shower, the grey tank hit its limit. Water began backing up into the shower stall, turning it into a shallow pool. He wrapped up quickly, threw on clothes, and headed outside to empty the tank so Lynn wouldn’t have to wade through her own shower. As if that wasn’t enough, the power started flickering and the internet cut out—so he had to troubleshoot and fix that too.

A stormy day, no doubt—but it delivered its fair share of color, coziness, and a couple of curveballs to keep things interesting.
