The forecast promised rain all day, and it delivered. Lynn was up early at 6:30 AM to a chilly 49°F and steady drizzle. Kirk, surprisingly, was up by 8:30 AM—early for him! His mission for the morning was to secure our next campsite, and he had his sights set on Elkhorn Creek, the one we missed out on last week. It’s much closer to the distilleries and attractions we want to explore—no more two-hour drives. Success! He got us booked for a full week.

Despite having the heater and fireplace running, the RV was still cold. Lynn plugged in a small space heater to warm her feet and legs, but by 9:30 AM, the power cut out. We’d blown a circuit. The space heater was likely the culprit—everything was fine until Kirk got up and turned on the TV, microwave, air fryer, and fireplace. A quick fix: unplug the heater and flip the breaker.

Lynn spent the morning catching up on her blog. She’s still a week behind, but considering she was nearly two weeks behind, that’s progress!

Around noon, we made our way to the Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience in Bardstown—a quick 30-minute drive. The rain was relentless and showed no signs of stopping. Having already done the tour and bottling elsewhere, we opted to explore the exhibits instead and grabbed lunch at Five Brothers, the on-site restaurant and bar.

We ordered a tasting flight, plus two extra pours Kirk was curious about. Lynn gave each a try—still not a bourbon convert, but she didn’t mind them this time (again). Afterward, we wandered into the gift shop and, predictably, spent more than intended (again). Now Lynn faces the puzzle of finding safe storage space in the RV for the new bottles.

Overall, it was an enjoyable visit. The exhibits were well done, and we discovered an interesting connection: the Beam family played a significant role in Heaven Hill’s success, with multiple generations serving as Master Distillers and shaping the distillery’s legacy.

Afterward, we visited the Civil War Museum in Bardstown. The rain kept us from exploring the outdoor exhibits, but the museum itself was a nice indoor stop. It was pretty fascinating, and Lynn learned a lot. Didn’t take a lot of pics at the museum though.

By 3:30 PM, we were ready to head back. Lynn called the Fort Knox Visitors Center to check on her 5-day Fast Pass status. She spoke with a Sergeant who said she’d need to stop by in person or try re-registering online. Unfortunately, the system denied her second attempt since she’d already submitted a request. So, stopping by is the only option. Kirk’s indifferent—he’s seen plenty of bases over the years, so it’s not high on his list. We’ll see if we go.

Later, on the road trip back we spotted a White Castle sign. Kirk hadn’t had it in years, and Lynn had never been. It was a must stop! We ordered a shareable meal with 10 tiny burgers—delicious!

We returned to the RV around 4:30 PM, still under a steady rain. The evening wrapped up with movies, as Lynn couldn’t upload pictures to her blog. That tech issue will have to wait until tomorrow.
