September 14, 2025 (Sun.) - Part 2 (Evening) - Auroras!
This is Part 2 of Sunday, September 14, 2025, following our earlier visit to Fort Michilimackinac.
Later that evening, just as Lynn was winding down for bed and Kirk was mid-routine, her Aurora app pinged: “The aurora may be visible in your area in the next hour.” It was 9:50 PM—still a reasonable hour, unlike those past-midnight/2 AM alerts we ignored back in South Dakota. Lynn wasn’t about to miss it again.
She threw on her cold-weather gear and stepped outside the RV to check. Sure enough—green and pink skies! She snapped a few photos and called out to Kirk, who had just finished showering. Begrudgingly, he layered up and joined her for a short walk to the shoreline, which offered a much darker view than the RV area (thanks to a pesky streetlight nearby). And wow—even more vibrant color with the Mackinac Bridge in the background!
Kirk, thinking ahead, brought the tripod for better long-exposure shots on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. We took a ton of photos—most of them looked the same but still different as the aurora was always moving…it was mesmerizing.
We stayed out for a little over an hour. Lynn could’ve stayed longer, but there’s only so many shots you can take of the same sky. Still, it was a magical moment—and we can finally check off the Northern Lights from our bucket list! Despite being hesitant to go out at first, Kirk was glad that Lynn forced him to! It’s definitely a sight to see!
