September 17, 2025 (Wed.) - Recharge.
After yesterday’s whirlwind at Mackinac Island—packed with touring, walking, shopping, and dining—we were completely wiped out. Lynn clocked another 15-hour nap starting at 5 PM yesterday, thanks to the lingering effects of “Less Drowsy Dramamine”. Safe to say, today was all about taking it easy.
The morning was slow and uneventful. We didn’t leave the RV until after noon, when we decided to make a supply run to Walmart in Cheboygan about 20 minutes away. Kirk also swung by Splash and Dash for a much-needed truck wash. Naturally, that probably means rain is on the way—classic timing!
On the drive back, we stopped at a rest area along Lake Michigan so Otis could stretch his legs. It was peaceful and quiet—a perfect little break.
The evening wrapped up with a sunset walk along Lake Huron’s shoreline at the campground. A gentle, restorative day to recharge and unwind.
Weather – High 74*, Low 59*. Wind 3-15 mph. No rain, no humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – Nothing to report.
Notable – Nothing to report.
September 18, 2025 (Thu.) - More Rest!
Another quiet, restful day with not much on the agenda—just soaking in the beautiful weather and taking it slow.
Around 7 PM, we headed out for dinner at Audie’s Restaurant. The food hit the spot—crab cakes and fish, both solid choices. Afterward, we took a leisurely sunset walk at Michilimackinac State Park, enjoying the calm before the unexpected rain rolled in on our way back to the parking lot. A peaceful end to a laid-back day.
Weather – High 69*, Low 61*. Wind 2-15 mph. Not humid. Unexpected rain in the evening.
Traffic – None.
Food – Audie’s Restaurant – pretty good.
Notable – Nothing to report.
September 19, 2025 (Fri.) - RV Repairs, chores
Today was the scheduled leaf spring replacement for the RV, but with no confirmed arrival time, we were stuck close to home.
Around noon, we got word the techs would arrive by 1 PM, and they showed up right on time. Kirk spent the afternoon chatting and observing as they replaced the broken leaf spring—and since he’d smartly ordered a spare, they went ahead and replaced both sides.
Meanwhile, Lynn tackled a list of chores. Our mail from South Dakota finally arrived, bringing a few items that needed attention. She also continued helping with her mom’s tax prep, which took up a good chunk of the day.
By late afternoon, the repairs were complete. The RV is travel worthy again!
The rest of the day was quiet and uneventful—just a chance to reset and recharge.
Weather – High 69*, Low 61*. Wind 2-15 mph. No rain, no humidity.
Traffic – None. Didn’t go anywhere.
Food – Nothing notable.
Notable – Two new leaf springs on the RV.
September 20, 2025 (Sat.) - McGulpin Point, Wienerlicious!
After a few quiet days in the RV, we finally ventured out around 11 AM to explore Mackinaw City. Our original plan was to head toward Wilderness Park, but a sign for McGulpin Point caught our eye and we made a spontaneous detour.
We expected a scenic overlook of the Straits of Mackinac on the Lake Michigan side, but instead discovered a nature trail leading up to the McGulpin Point Lighthouse and the historic McGulpin Rock. The trail was peaceful, lined with scenic trees and historical markers that added depth to the walk. It was one of those moments that reminds us—some of our favorite experiences have come from the unplanned detours, the places we didn’t intend to find but are so glad we did. This was definitely one of those unexpected gems.
After the hike, we continued on to Wilderness Park, but the signs led us to a dead end. It was drizzling by then and by 1 PM, hunger took over. We couldn’t resist stopping at Wienerlicious—with a name like that and a giant hot dog on the roof, how could we not? Kirk went for the all-beef chili dog, Lynn tried the Mackinaw Dog topped with cheese and bacon. Both were tasty, and of course, Kirk grabbed a souvenir t-shirt.
The rest of the day was quiet and low-key. Around 10:30 PM, the rain rolled in, loud enough to make its presence known. A mellow end to a fun little outing.
Weather – High 64*, Low 56*. Wind 10-18 mph with gusts up to 27 mph. Rain mid-afternoon/night. No humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – Wienerlicious.
Notable – McGulpin Point – Lighthouse, Rock, Trail.
