September 23, 2025 (Tue.) - Potter Road Drive.
After two days at the hospital, we were ready to get out and do something—anything. Lynn had been captivated by the drive along Potter’s Road during her solo trip to Petoskey and wanted to share it with Kirk this time.
Despite the rainy skies, we hit the road around 12:30 PM. Retracing the route wasn’t easy at first, but thanks to Life360, Lynn was able to follow the exact path. And just like before, the drive was absolutely beautiful—a peaceful, scenic stretch that felt like a breath of fresh air.
We continued exploring a few other seasonal backroads, but our adventure was cut short by a downed tree branch blocking the way. So we rerouted to Cheboygan for a grocery run, picking up some healthier options like chicken, fish, fruit and some salad. We made it back to the RV by 3 PM.
The rest of the day was spent catching up on blog posts and chores—things that had understandably taken a backseat over the weekend. It felt good to ease back into routine, even if just a little.
Weather – High 66*, Low 59*. Winds 2-16 mph. Rain. No humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – Nothing notable.
Notable – Potter Road scenic drive.
September 24, 2025 (Wed.) - Chores, Travel Prep.
Today was a low-key day, easing back into a semi-normal routine. Lynn was up early at 7:15 AM, while Kirk rolled out of bed around 9:30 AM.
It was our last day at Mill Creek Campground in Mackinaw City, and we realized we hadn’t yet booked our next site! With the hospital stay and Otis feeling under the weather for the past few days, Kirk took on the task of finding our next RV spot and scheduling a vet visit near South Boardman, MI—a central location for the activities we had in mind and home to a well-rated RV resort.
Kirk found a vet in Traverse City, about 20 minutes away, and booked an appointment for Friday morning. Otis had been lethargic, vomiting, and not eating or drinking much. The vet recommended boiled chicken only, and thankfully, we had just stocked up on fresh chicken breasts. Otis devoured his meal, which was a hopeful sign.
Lynn spent the day tackling travel prep chores—washing, cleaning the RV, handling tax paperwork for her mom, and catching up on a backlog of blog notes. Trying to recall the last several days proved tricky, but she made progress.
All in all, it was a quiet, uneventful day, but a necessary one to regroup and get ready for what’s next. Not many pics today, just a few sunset/cloud pics at the campground.
Weather – High 65*, Low 59*. Wind 2-12 mph. Rain. No humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – Nothing to report. Ate in RV all day.
Notable – Otis ate boiled chicken.
September 25, 2025 (Thu.) - Travel to South Boardman, MI
Today was travel day, as we packed up and left Mackinaw City for South Boardman, MI. The morning started like most others—Lynn up at 6:15 AM, Kirk at 8:00 AM—but with one unexpected twist: removing a rock from Otis’ nose. It took tweezers and teamwork—one to hold him, the other to do the delicate “nose picking.” Lynn drew the short straw for that glamorous job. Somehow, Otis must’ve inhaled a tiny rock at the campground. With all his sniffing, it’s not too surprising.
We hit the road around 10:30 AM for a short 110-mile drive, roughly two hours. Our destination: Vista Green RV Resort, close to Traverse City and other spots we plan to explore. Since check-in wasn’t until 1 PM, we made a pit stop at a rest area to pass the time.
Right at 1 PM, we pulled into Vista Green. The resort is well-maintained and welcoming, and the owners, Greg and Kim, couldn’t be kinder. Kirk had booked our site online, but once they saw our rig, they suggested we check out a larger site. Greg even gave us a golf cart tour to pick the best fit. We ended up switching to a spacious, level cement pad with a grassy area—after days of dirt and gravel, it felt like luxury. The clubhouse, pool, and fitness center are spotless, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped with ponds and trees just starting to show fall colors. The other campers are incredibly friendly—lots of waves, hellos, and casual chats.
By 4 PM, we were finally settled in and ready to relax. At 6:30 PM, we headed to The Upper Bar & Grill in Lake Fife for dinner, a spot recommended by Greg and Kim. Thursday is hot beef sandwich night, and it did not disappoint. Afterward, we took a scenic drive around Lake Fife, catching the sunset over the water.
At 7:30 PM, we took a walk through the campground as the sun dipped below the horizon. We found a trail that ended in a dead-end, but Otis got to chase a rabbit—his last one, as it turns out. He was so sick (although we didn’t know it), yet still excited to be outside. Kirk made him boiled chicken for dinner, but sadly, he wouldn’t eat it this time. Hopefully we’ll get more answers at the vet tomorrow.
Later, at 9:30 PM, we stepped outside and were greeted by a sky full of stars—the Milky Way clearly visible. It was a breathtaking end to a bittersweet day.
Weather (South Boardman, MI) – High 68*, Low 55*. Wind 3-8 mph. No rain. No humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – The Upper Bar & Grill.
Notable – Vista Green RV Resort, The Upper, Stars and the Milky Way.
