September 4, 2025 - Relaxing in the UP.

Today was another low-key day, perfect for winding down before tomorrow’s travel. Lynn was up at 8:00 AM, hoping to enjoy her morning coffee while watching the sunrise over Lake Michigan. The view was stunning—but the temperature? Not so much. The weather app said “45°F, but feels like 37°F“. Brrr! Too cold for a leisurely sip outside, so she retreated indoors after taking a few pics (some with the Canon, some with the iPhone).

Kirk was up around 10:00 AM, still nursing a stiff back, though it’s slowly improving. We had a late breakfast in the RV, then took Otis out to finish the walking trail we’d started yesterday. It was a beautiful path, though short—it spilled into the neighboring campground and ended at a boat launch by the water.

Later, we drove into Escanaba to explore the town. Despite having just eaten, we couldn’t resist stopping at a Swedish restaurant boasting “Best Food in Town.” Kirk ordered the Swedish pancakes, which were excellent, while Lynn tried the Swedish Sampler. The meatballs were a hit, but the rest of the plate didn’t quite measure up. Lynn, ever the sharp-eyed spotter of typos, immediately caught a misspelling of the city name on their placemats. And not just one—there’s one for every seat at a table! Should she say something? Tempting, but Lynn’s not one for confrontation, so she simply let it slide with a quiet chuckle especially since she’s had her own share of spelling slip-ups. Hey, we’ve all been there!

We wandered the town a bit, picked up a souvenir sticker and some sweets from a local gift shop, then headed to a nearby beachfront park to walk Otis. But the wind kicked in hard, and it got seriously cold. Kirk didn’t bring a jacket and was feeling it—if he’s cold, you know it’s brisk. Lynn, on the other hand, was fully geared up in her windproof hiking/fishing pants, hoodie, and heated vest.

Rain began to fall just as we made our way back to the RV—naturally, it’s also forecasted to continue tomorrow, right when we’re scheduled to leave. By 2 PM, we were tucked inside, with Kirk resting his back and Lynn catching up on blogging. After dealing with an influx of spam, she decided to disable comments on the blog altogether. Since this space is more of a personal travel diary, anyone who knows us already has our email or phone number if they want to reach out. Problem solved.

The evening was quiet and cozy, spent simply relaxing and soaking in our final night by the lake.

We noticed lots of rigs pulling in, likely gearing up for the weekend. This campground has been such a peaceful retreat—with gorgeous lake views and quiet surroundings. We’d absolutely return here in the future.
