August 17, 2025 (Sun.) – Lynn in Idaho/SLC, Kirk Solo in WI day 3.

August 17, 2025 (Sun.) - Lynn's trip from ID to SLC.

The day started early for us sisters. The hotel offered coffee and breakfast, so we grabbed our wonderful cardboard cups and headed to the outdoor patio with a firepit to watch the sunrise. It was a peaceful and beautiful morning, the kind that makes you slow down and soak it all in.

After breakfast, we packed up and did some last-minute shopping around Idaho Falls, hoping to find souvenirs specific to the city—t-shirts, stickers, mugs, anything! We stopped at 4–5 places, walked the mall, and even checked Walmart. While they had Idaho-themed items, there was nothing for Idaho Falls. Sadly, the only gift shop dedicated to the city was closed on Saturday and Sunday. Maybe next time!

Around 1 PM, we hit the road for our three-hour drive back to Salt Lake City, where we planned to spend the night near the airport to avoid a pre-dawn drive before Monday’s flights. Along the way, we made a few fun detours:

  • 🥔 Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot – surprisingly fascinating and interactive for a small museum.

  • 🐉 License Plate Dragon in Bountiful, UT – a cool roadside sculpture made entirely of Utah plates. Bonus: the park had a splash pad and lazy river, perfect for Jill and Trish to cool off their feet.

  • 👹 Hoodah the 15-Foot Troll in downtown SLC – not a Dambo Troll, but still fun to spot in the center median. Lynn found it via the Roadside America app.

Once in Salt Lake City, we checked into the hotel and went on a mission for gas and dinner. We scored big at Costco gas—no lines and $2.69/gallon! Trish was amazed. For dinner, we headed to Red Robin at the mall, where—once again—our order got mixed up. Lynn and Jill split a bacon cheeseburger, but it arrived without bacon. Thankfully, the server fixed it quickly and even threw in extra bacon and onion rings to make up for it. Win!

We wrapped up the evening early, ready for tomorrow’s flights. Oddly enough, both flights depart at exactly 10:55 AM—one heading back to California, the other to Minnesota. Perfect timing to end a memorable trip.

Weather – Warm in the upper 80’s. Not humid. (Idaho Falls and SLC).

Traffic – None.

Food – Nothing notable.

Notable – Dragon in Bountiful, UT and Troll in SLC, UT.

August 17, 2025 (Sun.) - Kirk's solo day in WI (day 3)

Not much to report from Kirk today—he spent the day packing and cleaning the RV, getting everything ready for Tuesday’s departure and Lynn’s airport pickup tomorrow.

The only photo from the day? A shot of the nearly empty campground. The row of RVs behind ours belongs to full-timers, and with the beautiful blue skies, it almost looks like the ocean is just beyond our site. Peaceful, quiet, and a good day to reset.

Weather (per Kirk) – Cool, gloomy.

Traffic – None.

Food – Nothing to report.

Notable – Nothing to report.
