October 20, 2025 (Mon.) - Covered Bridges.
The day kicked off with a chill—literally. Lynn was up at 7:45 AM to a brisk 39°, though it felt like 32° (according to the weather app). She had planned to get some blogging done before Kirk woke up, but the photo database we use was acting up due to an update issue, leaving her unable to access any images. So instead, she took the morning slow and relaxed.
Kirk rolled out of bed around 10 AM, and we decided to head into New Castle for brunch at Stacks Pancake House, which had solid reviews. It turned out to be… decent. Nothing groundbreaking, but it hit the spot.
After breakfast, we cruised around New Castle a bit more and ended up at Rural King for some browsing and light shopping. Always fun to poke around and see what you didn’t know you needed.
Looking for a little adventure, Lynn suggested we track down three covered bridges in Rushville, IN. With GPS coordinates in hand, we crossed our fingers and hoped for smooth navigation. Two of the bridges were easy to find thanks to accurate coordinates. The third was trickier, but with a little help from satellite imagery, we spotted it near the marked location and made our way there. Success! All three were still in use and full of charm. We did not drive through the third bridge as we were concerned about the weight limit. The first two have a 10 Ton limit, the third a 3 Ton limit.
Covered bridges we found in Rushville:
-
Norris Ford Covered Bridge
-
Smith Covered Bridge – the one Siri misled us on a few days ago (she sent us to someone’s house!)
-
Offut’s Ford Covered Bridge – our favorite of the bunch, nestled in a scenic spot with goats nearby for bonus charm
By 3 PM, we were back at the RV. Lynn tried to dive back into blogging to chip away at the backlog, but the photo upload issues persisted—another delay. So, we shifted gears and settled in for a relaxing movie afternoon.
Kirk wrapped up the day by grilling a juicy pork loin, and we enjoyed a cozy dinner inside the RV. A chilly start, a scenic detour, and a satisfying end.
Weather – High 61*, Low 39*. Winds 7-13 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. No rain, no humidity.
Traffic – None.
Food – Kirk’s grilled pork loin.
