June 17, 2026 (Wed.) – Travel to Steamboat Springs, CO.

Yay — travel day! Time to move on. This was our first trip into Colorado with the RV, which meant we finally got to add a new sticker to our state travel map. the last few states have been duplicates.

Lynn was up at 5 a.m., as she always is on travel days. Kirk was up at 7:30, determined to beat the heat since Vernal was expected to hit 92°. We were on the road by 9:45 for the short hop to Steamboat Springs — just 157 miles, about two and a half hours.

There are no rest areas along this route, so at 11 a.m. we pulled over for a roadside bathroom break. Having a traveling bathroom is one of RV life’s greatest perks. During the stop, Kirk also met a very vocal lone sheep on the hillside. He mimicked its calls, and for a moment it looked like they were having a full conversation.

Back on the road, we arrived at Eagle Soaring RV Park around 1 p.m., just ten minutes from downtown Steamboat Springs. It’s a tiny park — only 25 sites lined up in a single row. Our site was extremely narrow; Kirk had to trim a few branches before we could even set up. There was no room for our mat or chairs, and even if we’d squeezed them in, we’d have been staring directly at our neighbor’s sewer line. The park seemed full of families with toddlers, all of whom appeared to know each other.

We headed out for dinner around 5:30 p.m. and landed at Salt & Lime, a Mexican restaurant with decent food. Afterward, we wandered through town and stumbled upon barrel racing at Howelsen Park — young girls, maybe ages 8 to 18, racing their horses around the barrels with impressive speed. We watched from the bleachers for a bit before continuing our walk.

We made it back to the RV by 8:30 p.m. The campground didn’t have individual fire pits, which meant no s’mores — again. Apparently the universe is still making us earn them. After a short travel day and blessedly cooler weather, we were more than happy to call it a night.

Weather (Steamboat Springs, CO) – High 77*, Low 49*. Wind 12-23 mph with 39 mph gusts. No rain, no humidity.

Traffic – None.
