August 4, 2026 (Tue.) – New Tires & Wheels!

August 4, 2026 (Tue.) - New Tires & Wheels!

We didn’t have much on the agenda today. Mostly we were waiting on the new tires and wheels. Les Schwab already had the tires; it was the wheels we were waiting on — making their way up from California, of all places! With it being Tuesday and us leaving on Thursday, time was running out!

Lynn was up at 0615 to a chilly 49° morning and still‑unhealthy air quality (AQI 174), so she skipped her walk. Kirk got up at 0930, and we decided to try The Breakfast Nook, a place we’d driven past several times in CDA. The wait was about 30 minutes, but we stayed, and it turned out to be a great choice. Lynn ordered the pork cutlet, similar to chicken fried steak but with pork, and it was excellent. Kirk had the sausage patty and eggs, also very good — the sausage patty was almost as good as Kimmie’s in Anaheim Hills…almost. By the time we finished, the line to get in was out the door. Good timing on our part.

During breakfast, Kirk got the call that the wheels had arrived. Around noon we headed to Les Schwab, checked out the new wheels, and ordered an Uber back to the RV park. Jorge, our tire guy, told us not to expect the truck before 6pm. The wheels were delicate and expensive, so they wanted to take their time and “do it right the first time,” especially knowing we were traveling and wouldn’t be back anytime soon. With no vehicle, we spent the afternoon relaxing — TV, napping, and staying out of the smoke.

At 4pm, the truck was ready, earlier than expected. We Ubered back to Les Schwab, and Kirk was thrilled. “Fabulous!” The new tires and wheels looked great, far better than the stock setup. His only concern now is whether the larger tires will throw off the speedometer and make the cruise control act up. He uses cruise control a lot, so we’ll have to test it and see. We do need to return tomorrow after about 100 miles so they can tighten up the lug nuts.

After picking up the truck, we stopped at Safeway to restock groceries. By 6pm we were back at the RV. With the new tires and wheels installed, Kirk added the new Rock Tamer mud flaps, and we settled in for a movie — Pressure (2026), based on the true story of how weather influenced D‑Day. Fascinating and very well done.

For the last three days, we’ve said we’d be productive — traffic school and blogging — and for the last three days, we haven’t been. Other than the new tires and wheels and a grocery run, the only productive thing we managed today was a walk up to the office to pick up packages.

A simple day of upgrades, errands, and smoky skies — productive enough for now. Not many pics today.
