Mud Flaps and Hair Day - by the Lake.
Today was personal‑care day — finally we’re in a “bigger” city with services that actually fit our schedule. The plan: Lynn gets her hair done, and Kirk goes on the great mud‑flap hunt.
Lynn was up at 6am and headed out for an early walk at 7:30 to beat the heat. The campground is huge, and she found all kinds of surprises: nature trails leading to the lake, a fairy/rock garden, a BMX bike area, and several hidden coves along the shoreline with tucked‑away seating. A full morning’s worth of discoveries before most people had finished their coffee.
Kirk was up around his usual 9am‑ish time, and we had breakfast in the RV before Lynn’s noon hair appointment. She found a stylist in midtown Coeur d’Alene — and, in true small‑world fashion, the stylist was originally from San Diego, and her husband retired from the County of Orange, just like both Lynn and Kirk. What are the odds?!
Kirk dropped Lynn off, knowing she’d be there for a while, and headed off in search of mud flaps. He found some at North 40 Outfitters — only two in stock, so he grabbed one. A rare victory for in‑person shopping instead of online ordering. He headed back to the RV to start the install… and naturally, the moment everything was out of the box, Lynn texted that she was ready for pickup. Her color turned out great (no cut this time), and she’d happily return to the same stylist next time we’re in CDA.
Now it was lunchtime – a very late 2pm lunch. We stopped at Madd Chicken and ordered teriyaki bowls. Lynn had chicken, Kirk had steak and shrimp. They were both delicious except the shrimp had seen better days. But overall, a good meal.
By 3pm we were back at the RV. Kirk assembled and installed the mud flaps, ready for permanent installation once the new wheels and tires arrive. Lynn spent the afternoon doing chores and blogging.
Dinner was simple — mini tacos in the RV again. Afterward we took a walk around the campground to explore more of the trails. Unfortunately, the air quality continued to decline, and our eyes were burning from the smoky skies. Wildfires strike again.
We wrapped up the day with burning eyes, smoky skies, and the satisfaction of getting things done. Mostly campground pics today.
Weather – High 90*, Low 56*. Wind 2-3/7 mph. No rain. Slightly humid, especially in the evening.
Traffic – None.
Food – Madd Chicken – delicious.
Notable – Campground beauty, new mud flaps and a visit to the hair salon.
