November 24, 2025 (Mon.) - Oklahoma’s Oldest Bar and Survivor Reflections.
The agenda today was light, with our only firm plan being an early dinner with Tim & Carol at Oklahoma’s oldest bar. After yesterday’s busy schedule, the morning was spent relaxing. Lynn was up at 6:45, but by 8:30 her allergies flared again—another half‑Benadryl day, though coffee helped offset the drowsiness. Kirk rose at 10:00, and together we headed out in the rain to a breakfast spot he found on Yelp. Neighborhood Jam was just a few miles away, and we joined the waitlist en route. We started 12th in line, moved up to 9th, then sat at the top spot for over 15 minutes before finally being seated—about a half‑hour wait in total. The place was packed, but the food was worth it.
By 12:30 we were back at the RV. Lynn tackled some chores and check writing while Kirk took a nap. Soon after, we set out again in search of a post office, stopping at Duluth Trading to browse and then at the Harley‑Davidson dealership next door. Kirk struck up a conversation with Lucky, a rider originally from Huntington Beach—Lynn’s hometown—who had settled in OKC for its central location. His stories of travel and riding were colorful and engaging. His mother and sister still live in HB and it’s a reminder how small a world we live in.
We returned to the RV by 2:45, just long enough to freshen up before meeting Tim & Carol at Eischen’s Bar in Okarche, about an hour away. Known as Oklahoma’s oldest bar (established in 1896), it’s equally famous for its fried chicken and rich history. Arriving a bit early, we ordered beer and nachos, and the server handed us several sheets of paper—our “plates,” as Tim & Carol explained, since we were baffled. Dinner was fried chicken, fried okra, and more beer, all fantastic. During conversation, Carol asked if we had seen Tim’s name on the Survivor Wall at the OKC National Memorial. We hadn’t even noticed it, though it stands right beside the Field of Empty Chairs. Ugh, how did we miss that??!!
So we decided to return that evening. Lynn had wanted to see the chairs lit up at night anyway. At 8:00 we arrived downtown, finding the memorial quiet and empty, with plenty of parking. The illuminated Field of Empty Chairs was stunning, and we searched the Survivor Wall until we found Tim’s name—an incredible moment, grateful he had survived.
By 8:30 PM we were back at the RV, winding down with coffee for Lynn (the caffeine doesn’t bother her at night) and a movie to close out the day.
