July 7, 2025 (Sun.) - Alpine Inn, Legion Lake
The morning rolled in at a slow and steady pace—bills, laundry, and a little adulting before we decided it was finally time to revisit the lunch service at Alpine Inn (the one we missed a few days back). Being the weekend, and knowing how popular it gets, we expected a long wait—especially with Otis in tow. But luck was on our side: we snagged a perfect patio spot with room for Otis to lounge in style.
Naturally, we went with the Schnitzel loaded with all the fixings. Normally we like to mix it up, order different dishes, and sample each other’s choices. But this time? No sharing—just two full plates, thank you very much! It wasn’t veal, but the pork version held its own, crispy and satisfying in every bite.
After that indulgent lunch, we finally tackled something that’s been on our to-do list forever: hiking the Legion Lake loop. We’ve passed it countless times, always saying “next time.” Well, this was the time.
The trailhead labeled the hike as “easy,” but a closer look revealed a little fine print—steep and rocky sections in some places. Lynn had debated leaving her hiking stick behind but decided to bring it after reading that little disclaimer. Good call—those uneven patches would’ve been far trickier without it.
The one-mile loop was short, scenic, and refreshingly peaceful, with just enough terrain to keep us on our toes. Another local gem checked off the list, and a good reminder that sometimes even the “easy” trails deserve some gear. As we neared the end of the loop, the skies darkened again. As we hit the road, the rain set in…we escaped the weather again!
A little shout out to the camper a few sites down…love the Snoopy decals!!!
